This beautiful Friesian horse has given me plenty of headaches ;)
My first painting, so there was a lot of "let's try this" going on.
It took 11 days and way too many hours, but I think it turned out OK. At least it looks like the reference picture.

Not too sure about the background yet, but it's better than the old one, which was so dark you couldn't really see the horse anymore.

30x40 cm Reeves canvas
Reeves acrylic paint (both on sale ;) )
Yellow D-R System 3 brushes (00,0,1,2,3, 6 round and 2 slightly bigger flat ones)

I'm not sure if I can be of much help - I'm using a Reeves started kit here, which I mainly bought because it was among the cheapest of starter sets. I'm quite pleased with the paint though.

In my limited experience it's only the real cheap paint that sucks (in the Netherlands - the Xenos) so I do suggest you buy it at a proper art store.

In general the slightly more expensive paints I think have a little more pigment in them (and with the dirt cheap stuff the pigment is replaced by some gunk that makes the paint almost translucent with lousy coverage...)

So, I think you can safely buy student grade paint, you can always upgrade to more expensive stuff later if you wish.

Really can't help you much there then, sorry :)!
For publishing I'd probably go the save way - highest pigment artist grade paints.

Very good, love that round butt. I like that in horses. :) The colors look very good together.

Grin, yeah, especially with Fresian's (and Quarters) you get those ;)
But I like it too in horses, a bit of roundness.

Thanks on the colors too - it's a bit less "smurf" in real life, but hard to photograph.
