How can I add more depth to the grass to create the distance that will make the shrubs trees?

tonal perspective should help - the colours becoming less saturated as they get further away, creating the "hazy" look suggested by the above commenter. I'm not sure what else to suggest as I'm not that great at backgrounds myself
